Carbon filter and sponge filter
The set filters in two stages. The sponge filter catches hair, debris and large particles first. The half-moon carbon filter then works on the finer impurities, and the manufacturer states that it removes residual heavy metals. The carbon filter is built from several layers: non-woven fabric, activated carbon, ion exchange resin and another layer of non-woven fabric.
Filter materials
The manufacturer lists three materials in the carbon filter:
- Pure coconut shell activated carbon: the main filtering layer.
- Ion exchange resin: a second filtering layer.
- Non-woven fabric: the outer layers that hold everything in place and catch fine particles.
Rinse the filter before use
Soak the new carbon filter in clean water for 2 to 3 minutes, and rinse the sponge filter under running water. This washes off loose carbon dust before the filters go into the fountain.
How to change the filters
- Unplug the fountain and lift off the top tray.
- Take out the used carbon and sponge filters.
- Soak the new carbon filter and rinse the sponge as above.
- Fit the sponge filter around the pump inlet, then insert the carbon filters into their compartments in the tray.
- Put the tray back, refill if needed and plug in.
